Scripting and Command Line Tools

Azure provides two command line tools – PowerShell and Cross-Platform CLI – for you to manage your Azure subscriptions, accelerate your development and automate tasks via scripting, no matter whether you are on Windows, Mac or Linux.

If you have any feedback on Azure PowerShell or Azure Cross-Platform CLI, we’d love to hear it.

  2. How about removing the old incorrect scripts, like for SQL Database?

Please contact me - these scripts for SQL Database are extremely old and way out of date.

  3. Stop\Start VM in same cloud service

As we know we could not start or stop the VM at same time in one cloud service.

I have googled for the script to do it. - PowerShell script which stop\start one VM first, once it get successfully started other job should initiate.

I got a script as such in below link
    https://gripdev.wordpress.com/2014/03/01/start-and-stop-azure-vms-and-more-in-parallel-from-powershell/

but It not worked for me as I am not good at PowerShell.

    My idea

Why to trouble the customer with script as above link stated.

We need to get a pop up window once he type a cmd to stop multiple vms in single cloud…

  4. Script to login to Azure Subscription using ARM runbooks

Since Azure ARM has a different way of interfacing the system using the Powershell ARM runbooks might be a good idea to write a script syntax how to connect to the subscription.

  6. Sample scripts from Wizard

Instead of having people DIG for the scripts, have the sample script available after execution of a provisioning wizard in the same manner you did with Exchange 2010, System Center and even the Active Directory Administration Center. You'll create far higher adoption with a better ease of use for Cloud application deployment AND be doing something Amazon ISN'T !

  7. Script an existing VM hosting SQL Server

I have a VM in Azure hosting SQL Server 2014. Can I script this set up? Would I be able to change the script to change the VM's name? Could I change the script to upgrader to SQL Server 2016?

  9. Please stop relying on QuickStart templates to demonstrate so much - they are mostly unusable for Production scenarios

When I search online for how to script resources in Azure using Powershell, I find way too many "QuickStart Templates" that are imported using the New-AzureRmResourceGroupDeployment cmdlet. This is not "using Powershell". These template inevitably have a kernel of what I need to do. But they are coded to a convoluted JSON structure that it is impossible to unpick and customize to an actual Production scenario.

I actually believe that most of these examples are "export to script" output from the Portal and have not really be crafted to be useable by DevOps.

Please stop delivering examples using this technique:…

  11. script that creates a report on utiliization of all vms in a subscription

we could really use an powershell script [ and runbook ] story for reporting on the utilization of all vms in a subscription over the course of the past 7 - 14 days.

  13. Quickly create a VM based on an image from Azure Gallery

A script should create a VM with configured parameters like ones in the "Quick VM Create" Azure wizard (without a virtual network):
    - subscription
    - VM name
    - image ID or name (latest version available)
    - cloud service (new or existing)
    - storage account (new or existing)
    - data center location (country)
    - tier (basic or standard) / VM size
    - user name
    - password

  15. Document token timeout handling when using "Connect-AzureRmAccount -MSI"

When I log in with "Connect-AzureRmAccount -MSI", then loop forever calling AzureRM powershell commands from time to time, I eventually get a token expired exception. I've experimented with periodically logging off and logging on again, and using different "scope" values - but still eventually get the problem. After I get the token expired exception I can only get things going again by killing the script process and starting it again.

The documentation does not cover this at all as far as I can see. The Connect-AzureRmAccount documentation does not describe what is going on under the hood with tokens and…

  17. Powershell from approved IP addresses

Wanted to see an IP whitelist for Powershell activities into my environment. The only external IPs that are allowed to run Powershell in my environment would need to be part of this whitelist.

Import a CSV file into Azure Table (and also be able to update/sync it) as new data comes into the CSV file. (Same the other way around).

  19. Restoration of Databases from .bacpac file

There should such a runbook in azure which should be capable to restore a database from .bacpac file daily.
Suppose someone has automated the backup(.bacpac) of a certain production database and he/she wants to restore the Production database on UAT database daily at a certain time.
Runbook should also be capable to delete the UAT database and then restore with the same name. For example, database name is abc.UAT and it should be restored from abc.PROD database's .bacpac.
Since, the URL of .bacpac will change daily so this runbook should be capable to accomodate the daily chaning URL of .bacpac file.

  20. add the ability to use self-signed certificates for URL in CustomScriptExtension

I’m using the VM CustomScriptExtension with a URL that points back to our web server to collect the powershell script and command that we use to download and install our own custom software. Tthe extension is failing because of the self-signed certificate on the web server. The CustomScriptForLinux does not have the same issue; I’m able to install our software just fine on Linux.
