Create an official Azure SDK for Unity3d
There are various open and closed source plug-ins to integrate Azure with Unity 3d, but these are of variable quality. Microsoft have been pushing hard for game developers to adopt their platforms and services and an official Unity3d plug-in for Azure (a wrapper around the different platform specific SDKs would probably be best) would help a lot in encouraging game developers to use Azure for their services.
As a Proffesional Unity Developer, this would be great. I have no count on how many times we integrate with cloud based services for storage, mail services, etc.
Having an official SDK would definetly simplify the process greatly, and advertise for us switching to the azure platform.
An important use-case to keep in mind is that the SDK must be functional in both Editor time, and at runtime. We often have builder/creator scenarios structuring and building asset bundles, and then subsequently uploads them to whichever storage service we utilize.
Interesting. Do you think this would be implemented as a managed plugin?
I'm not terribly familiar with the Unity development flow, but could this be accomplished with using the nuget packages rather than the unity plugin? If not, what would be the difference / gain for creating a plugin?
