What additional services should Azure provide?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. ip restrict access to visual studio online

Our company houses our source code in Visual Studio Online. Currently a developer with an account can log in from home and download our entire code base which is basically our intellectual property - not good if they are about to resign and go to a competitor.
My suggestion is to allow IP restrictions on downloading code/workspaces. The rest of the site should be accessible from any IP, but users would be forced to VPN into the office to access the source code.

  2. Resource Group Deployments Should Have No Limit

The current limit is 800 deployments which is easily done in a DevOps scenario with infrastructure as code.

After you hit the 800 limit, you have to manually run a script to clear up the history or you can no longer deploy to the resource group.

This should automatically rollover on its own.

  4. Azure Devops - Support for branch policy template that can be applied to all or some branches

I have a master branch i have a branch policy for, i then have medium lived branches such as Feature1, Feature2 etc. All of which have the same branch polices. However everytime i create a new "feature" branch, i have to re-write the branch policy for that branch.

It would be great if i was able to define a template and then just add the template to a branch, or some kind of inheritance for branch polices.

    Thanks

  5. As like many other cloud SAAS products, azure DevOps should reduce the per user cost when count increases

Most of the cloud SAAS products are billed based on usages, higher usage and lower per user cost, but here in VSTS - Azure DevOps, the per user cost is increasing drastically when the user count increases.

Is this an exception in billing side or a policy implemented, opposite to common SAAS product's billing strategy.

  6. Sync the CI Build Status to Team Explorer

I may not always be in the portal, so showing the build status realtime in VS would be awesome.

  7. Ability to create variable groups at the company level in Azure DevOps.

Ability to create variable groups at the company level in Azure DevOps. Currently it can only be done at project level. So there are lots of duplication in setting up company wide variables for different projects.

  10. I would love some online documentation for the Office 365 Shell WCSS-Client application.

I was looking through my companies Sign-in information and I saw almost everyone in the company using Office 365 Shell WCSS-Client, now no one in my office knows what a Shell is so this had me concerned. If you could put some documentation online to let us know this is a valid part of the Office 365 environment that would be great. I spent a few hours with support before we came to that conclusion.

  12. AWS vs AZURE

Since the day of its inception, the cloud computing technology is revolutionary for its wide appeal and technical prowess. In that cloud computing realm, there are two invincible forces that are becoming a definitive authority on this innovative technical achievement – Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.

Although both Azure and AWS are fundamentally same in their work mechanisms, there are some notably distinctive aspects. Here we are going to dig deep those differences.

    Virtual Machines
    AWS
Amazon Web services allow its users to possess and configure their own Virtual Machines. We also can opt for pre-configured machine images or…

  13. add a feature that allows pre-existing test cases to be loaded to a user story

Empty test cases have to be created to then add pre-existing test cases to a user story. Please add a feature that allows pre-existing test cases to be loaded to a user story without having to create an empty test case first. Save us automation engineers a lot of time.

Really appreciate that you are linking the azure devops sprint release on the main board of azure. Please let the engineers know we like what they are doing. Keep up the good work.

  15. Visual Code in cloud shell does not auto refresh

I like the embedded Visual Code editor experience, @Azure - the only glitch I noticed is that the VC pane on the left with the files listed would not refresh automatically. I created a file, ran code, quit the code view, created another one, ran code again and file would not show.

  18. Service Tag for Azure DevOps Deployment Agents

When connecting (e.g. through SSH) from Azure DevOps Deployment Agent to some Azure network, we need to whitelist a wide range of IP addresses that regularily change. It would be great to have a service tag for this type of usage.

  19. Azure Education VS2019

Visual Studio 2019 has launched a few days but it doesn't appear in Azure Education Portal. Visual Studio 2019 includes many powerful features. The only way for students to access the advanced feature in Visual Studio 2019 Enterprise is Azure Education. Otherwise only the free Community edition is available.
