Add Shibboleth to the set of authentication protocols
At present Azure AD can authenticate to SaaS using SAML, OAuth etc. Many academic institutions use Shibboleth which is based on SAML. Currently this means that they have to maintain a separate Shibboleth service in addition to AD FS (if using that for authentication). If a Shibboleth service could be added to Azure AD this would reduce the hardware/software complexity on-site and allow more Universities to take advantage of the Cloud Identity provided by Azure. Shibboleth is generally used to access shared education services, journals and other shared services.

This is a much needed feature. It would be great if this is available soon.
Can you explain what you mean by adding Shibboleth authentication protocol? Shibboleth is a software implementation of SAML protocol for Service Providers and Identity Providers. AAD does support use of a SAML IdP for authentication of AAD users. In this role, AAD acts as a SAML SP.

This would be great!!! I vote for it! It would really simplify things for us!
Considering many universities have adopted Shibboleth as their single sign on it would be advantageous if Azure AD adopted a solution. The lack of a solution puts universities in a difficult position to utilize Azure AD moving forward.

I manage a team of eight application developers and support analysts. We build and support enterprise solutions for a university department and several of these solutions are integrated with Shibboleth. My team would like to migrate our solutions to Azure but the lack of a native integration with Shibboleth is an obstacle. If Microsoft could add Shibboleth to Azure AD then I can build a much stronger case for moving to Azure. Please consider this suggestion.
This is a great feature and should be included. Thanks,

This would be a wonderful feature for universities. Waiting for this to be released.

I definitely think this would save a lot of work for devs and make it even more secure by having a single point of authentication.
This would definitely help universities to adopt azure as most of our systems are shibboleth integrated.

This would make wider adoption of our services much easier and simplify our technical stack. We can not simply use AD as it stands as the well established Shibboleth route is widely used by our many collaborators
