Resolve issue with Mail enabled contacts and Guest users being able to co-exist in Azure AD
Currently mail enabled contact objects in Azure AD and Guest users are unable to co-exist.
This blocks being able to use guest accounts for access to Office 365 workloads for any of those contacts.
You can now invite guests even when there’s already a contact object using the same email address, and the B2B system will set different properties on the guest user object such that the two can co-exist.

This no longer works
I would say that this is not resolved yet from what we are observing, despite @Elisabeth's claim above in 2019. Please make this work?
We have same challenge Josh Folcik commented.
Any possible way to circumvent conflict for inviting same sets existing mail-enabled user (with external email address) as guests for B2B collaboration seamlessly?

How about for a mail enabled user with an external email address? I understand Contacts work, but what about a mail-user which is slightly different than a mail contact. It is a user account that can login, but has external email address associated with it that exchange respects and puts in the GAL.
Briefly it seems that if contact exists first, then guest is created with "ProxyAddresses" populated as Null.
If guest exists first, then "ProxyAddresses" is populated as invited persons email.
Is there a way to get rid of the proxyaddress or some other way to handle situations where guest exists first?

This does not work in reverse. If the guest user already exists with email address firstname.lastname@example.org and then a new onpremm mailuser is dirsynced to O365 you will get duplicate attribute resiliency errors. Anyone know a way around this.

Any update on this? We have a customer that has tried this and it appears to still be non-functional. Is there a way to enable this or documentation around the feature?
Admin, how is this enabled? I just tried to do this in Azure AD in our tenant and got the "User already exists in this directory" message. When/how can this be enabled and can you point ot any documentation about this ability?

This is great news! But where can we find more detailed information on this? Is it already implemented? Will it require AAD connect update?
Is this just for contact objects? Can we have a guest account and a mail-enabled user coexist?
What? That's amazing! Is this currently in production as of now?
External Mail Contacts are from affiliate org and are for ease of mail routing, membership in DL's, calendar and scheduling, picking out of address list for skype..... These conflict with the B2B access.
I have Guest users in Azure and also need their e-mail addresses to show up in the GAL in Exchange Online. I cannot find a way to make this possible. In the contact section of Exchange they show as Guest users with no controls.

Why would you want a Contact and a Mail Enabled Guest to co-exist? You can just set the ShowInAddressList attribute to True and the Mail Enabled Guest will have the same functionality as a Contact.
