  1. Automatic Scaling Up / Down of Reserved Encoding Units

Having to plan ahead and manually reserve Encoding Units prior to submitting jobs, then manually stopping them upon job completion loses one important aspect of cloud computing: auto-scalability.
It would be much more useful to set an upper limit on number of reserved concurrent encoding units and let WAMS manage according to size of job queue.
This would make WAMS Encoding elastic and on par with other cloud encoding services.

    Hi SCrainic,
Auto-scaling of reserved units is on the roadmap for Windows Azure Media Services.

  2. Add Support for HEVC H.265 Encoding

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HighEfficiencyVideo_Coding. Our internal tests with HEVC/H.265 encoding is that it can decrease 4K file size by 4X. Please consider adding support for this encoder as an option for video output.

  3. Support for WEBM output container

Currenlty, AMS support WEBM input container. However, we would like to output media files as WEBM format. Our requirement is because Doubleclick Ad Exchange (Google Ad Exchnage) require webm format.

  4. Decrease time to start encoder job

It always takes about 30s to start a job no matter what size the video is. It's too slow.

For example if you have 5s video and you just want to resize it so you have to wait about a minute before the processing is finished.

Please improve performance here or provide pricing plans where it will work faster. Less than 5s to start a job should be reasonable.

  5. Provide timestamps from video summary

    What they want to achieve:
Insert a video, process it to get a summary and then get screenshots out of the summary to put them into a computer vision api (get the description of what is on that screenshot) so that they can get descriptive metadata of the whole metadata. We are receiving a lot of user generated content and would like to be able to tag it efficiently.

It would be nice to get a metadata file alongside the summarized video. The metadata file should contain information about all the scenes that are detected as well as portions of…

  8. API to extract video format and metadata without trans-coding or analyzing the entire video.

It would be a great tool to have the ability to analyze a video with an API call, prior to the trans-coding step. We have an issue where we don't have the format/encoding/compression information for all of our videos or other meta-data like video duration, resolution, etc. It would be great to be able to extract this information as a separate API, without an encoding process.

  10. Allow encoding of audio to mp3 with Media Encoder Standard

The only way to get mp3 output from AMS is using the premium encoder, it would allow for easier workflows and provide more functionality to give this as an output option with MES.

  11. Workflow Designer without Local License Server

I'm testing Media Encoder Premium Workflow with the Workflow Designer.
The Workflow Designer needs a license which is expired within 60 days.
And I need to contact Microsoft every 2 months.
    It bother me.

I want to use this software without such routine works.
(For example, logging in with MS Account.)

  12. Watermarking / Overlay Video using Azure Media Service

    Hi Team,
I am new to Azure and as far as i now Video Encoding (watermarking or say overlay) on video is a service provided by Azure so we should have a interface for watermarking (overlay) the video where we can provide image and video link and Azure will do the rest functionality for watermarking. Please guide me if we have any direct azure interface or in build support for overlay on video or watermarking the video. If no such facility is available, please guide me how do i do watermarking(overlay) using Dot net step by step.

    Thanks in Advance.

  13. Extend the Portal to include more features from the AMSE tool

We hope more features from the Azure Media Services Explorer tool is being integrated into the Portal to create a SaaS product that can compete with Elemental Cloud. At least allow us to customize our own encoding profiles by uploading our own JSON files.

  14. Support multiple audio tracks in Media Encoder Standard

Media Encoder Standard is able to encode videos containing multiple audio tracks, however these audio tracks cannot be separated in encoder's output. Neither at encoding, nor in .ism file: only first track is available/linkable.
A simple solution could be if MES's "NonInterleaved" option could separate not only video and audio, but multiple audio tracks also.

  16. Android 5 Lollipop Encoding Support

Azure Media Services need to be able to support Android 5 Lollipop encoding. With 17% Share of the largest mobile platform, Azure Media Services has to support this for it to be a viable encoding services. I would also suggest that the majority of developers using Azure Media are likely doing cross platform development on Xamarin---so adding a native player and code samples for the end to end mobile media solution are needed

Thanks for the feedback. While we support a majority of the codecs in the Lollipop platform, there are a few which are pending licensing discussions with the appropriate IP owners.

  17. Compose a series of still images into a video

Pull a series of images from blob storage or accept them from a stream of REST calls. Convert each image to a video frame and output the resulting video.

  18. Inserting InsertSilenceIfNoAudio and InsertBlackIfNoVideo using custom presets

Azure Media Service preset (XML or Json) can't take InsertSilenceIfNoAudio and InsertBlackIfNoVideo same time.

We need this in cases like, if clip has no audio then encoder can use InsertSilenceIfNoAudio and if clip has no video then encoder can use InsertBlackIfNoVideo.

When I was going through this blog post https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/media-services/previous/media-services-advanced-encoding-with-mes#no_video I realized this feature is not available, also posted it here asking for details https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/azure-docs/issues/20149.

Please either build this or confirm alternate option to achieve same.

  19. Bill reserved encoding units on an hourly basis

With variable and unpredictable workloads, getting billed daily increases the cost significantly. For example, if there a need to increase encoding capacity for 20 or even 23 hours, because the billing unit is 1 day from 00:00 GMT (or is it actual 00:00 datacenter time?) to 23:59, such increase will trigger 2 reserved units x day (since most people work during business hours)
