Web Apps

Web Apps in Azure App Service provides a scalable, reliable, and easy-to-use environment for hosting web applications. Select from a range of frameworks and templates to create a web site in seconds. Use any tool or OS to develop your site with .NET, PHP, Node.js, Python and more. Choose from a variety of source control options including TFS, GitHub, BitBucket and others to set up continuous integration and develop as a team.

More details about the services are available in the App Service documentation. If you have a technical issue, please open a post on the developer forums through Stack Overflow or MSDN.

Products that we listen to in this space include: App Service, Web Apps, API Apps and Web App for Containers.

  1. New app service domain validation tool.

As for custom domain validation on an app service, instead of recommending DigWebInterface, it would be good to have a what-if validation feature that allows the user to validate a custom domain, so in the process, give the user feedback on whether the record was not found, or whether the record was found but the information didn't match (that gives the user the information on what to do about it).

  2. Add support to do POST health check requests for SOAP web service health checks, instead of only doing a GET for health checks

Adding support to do POST health check requests for SOAP web service health checks in traffic manager, instead of only doing a GET for health checks.

The current issue is the dynamic DNS is not detecting proper outages of our SOAP web services because it performs a GET request and doesn't seem any problems, however we have had problems where our POST requests have stopped working and the dynamic DNS does NOT kick it since it can't detect it.

  3. Alert for when the App Service platform is scheduled for a new .NET Core version upgrade

An alert should be raised when a .NET Core version upgrade is scheduled for the App Service platform. Ideally, the alert should occur well in advance of the actual upgrade to give application teams time to prepare.

  4. Allow easy conversion between 'web app' types, especially to/from API apps

My team initially created our API on a web-app service, it seems like we're not alone. When we started experimenting with the API mgmt service, it wouldn't accept it for import. I had to delete the web-app, provision a new API-app, migrate the code to it and only then would API mgmt import it.

For these cases, a conversion process to/from API-app would be very useful

  5. Advanced application restart gated by Delete lock

At the moment, if there is a Delete lock applied to an App Service, it prevents the Advanced application restart feature from working. Reference ticket 119060721001994.

It appears that Advanced application restart is an older feature implemented before locks were exposed, and it issues a DELETE HTTP request to perform the Advanced application restart, which is denied due to the Delete lock being in place for the app service.

This is inconsistent with other actions that effectively do the same thing - via Restart, Scale Out/In, Scale Up/Down, and Kudu process kills. Note that Kudu is the only way to…

  6. Can't copy application log settings to new created deployment slots.

    in Japanese.

  9. IIS limitation to only extract leaf cert (with private key) when passing certificate chain to azure from client.

Azure is built on IIS, so the IIS limitation to only extract the leaf cert severely hinders the possibility to programmatically extract the root certificate and the following certs associated with that root certificate. There is an option to manually add these via the portal, however, this will cause an issue when something is changed on the client side that would require a reupload of the certificate. Would like to request a way or alternative way of passing this certificate chain that will allow for all certs to be passed and not just the root certificate. This chain is passed…

  10. Connecting to Azure DB for MySQL from Azure Web Apps (windows) fails when SSL is enabled on MySQL. mysql.exe --host=xxxxxxxx.mysql.database.

Connecting to Azure DB for MySQL from Azure Web Apps (windows) fails when SSL is enabled on MySQL.

    mysql.exe --host=xxxxxxxx.mysql.database.azure.com --user=user@db --password="password" --ssl --ssl-ca=D:\home\data\BaltimoreCyberTrustRoot.crt.pem

results in an error: ERROR 2026 (HY000): SSL connection error: socket layer receive error

But Drupal config with SSL to MySQL works OK. MySQL CLI from desktop works OK. Issue appears to be specific with Azure Web Apps and MySQL client.

  11. Client IPs shown as 0.0.0.0 in Azure Web App for Containers (linux)

Valid IPs are available for Azure Web App for Windows but not Web App for container Linux. This is much needed for supportablity such as 403 http status code.

  12. Throttling when creating web apps

can we have a way to increase throttling limits when creating deleting web apps, specially when using operations such as HostNameBinding. And documentation that shows the hard limits.

  13. Issue in accessing code execution logs on console in linux python azure functions 2.x

It would be great if python azure function apps hosted on linux do display code execution logs real time on the console.Currently we have been facing issue in generating the logs for the same on console.

  15. Assign users or groups per virtual application

It would be great to configure assigned users or groups per virtual application in a web app instead of on the whole web app level. because in our case, we have to have different users for different virtual applications.
