Web Apps

Web Apps in Azure App Service provides a scalable, reliable, and easy-to-use environment for hosting web applications. Select from a range of frameworks and templates to create a web site in seconds. Use any tool or OS to develop your site with .NET, PHP, Node.js, Python and more. Choose from a variety of source control options including TFS, GitHub, BitBucket and others to set up continuous integration and develop as a team.

More details about the services are available in the App Service documentation. If you have a technical issue, please open a post on the developer forums through Stack Overflow or MSDN.

Products that we listen to in this space include: App Service, Web Apps, API Apps and Web App for Containers.

  1. CLI command for App Service Managed Certificate

Please add CLI command for performing "Add App Service Managed Certificate". I can automate every other facet of the App Services except for this!

  2. Allow tag based whitelisting of Microsoft Azure Services on App Service

Please add the option of allowing the AppServices to Whitelist Azure Services by their Tags, just like in Application Gateway. There are cases where it is really helpful, like to the users of APIM Consumption Tier. Since there can be no dedicated IP to whitelist a Consumption Tier APIM instance, an entire bunch of Datacenter IPs needs to be whitelisted to prevent direct access to an API running on App Service. I just whitelisted like 161 IPs yesterday for North Central US region.

I have 8 App Service per environment, which host my APIs per environment and I have 3…

  3. Modify UTC time the Azure Functions

Currently Microsoft's Azure funcions service, there is no way to modify UTC time for Brazil. The result of this is a divergence in the task execution time and also in the logs that are collected by Application Insight and Azure Monitor.

  4. Please have a reliable way for applications to get their slot name

Right now our application code has no way of reliably figuring out which slot it is operating within. WEBSITEHOSTNAME is invalid when performing slot swaps and APPSETTINGWEBSITESITE_NAME is the same for all slots.

Also, we need the slot name before processing any HTTP requests, so can't really parse the hostname in an HTTP request either. This should be the responsibility of the hosting service to tell which slot is hosting the application.

  5. Provide an option to disable or hide App Service Editor in a specific subscription, resource group or web app

App Service Editor allows to make mistakes too easily. An option should be provided to disable or hide for a specific scope to reduce the risk of changes done by mistake.

  6. Enable dev/test plans for Web App for Containers (Windows)

Currently, Web App for Containers (Windows) only allows selecting production plans PC2-4.

Please allow using dev/test plans for lower cost during development.

  8. Netcore 3.0 Linux webapp auto heal does not exist

Netcore 3.0 deployed on a linux webapp does not have the ability to turn on autoheal as it has not been yet implemented.

Windows netcore 3.0 however does have auto heal.

Is this currently being worked on and if so what is the ETA?

  9. Block Certain IP Address(es) and Allow All Other Public Traffic

Within a Web App, I know how to allow certain IP addresses, but there is no option to block certain IP addresses while allowing all other traffic. What I am looking for it "block Tom's IP, but allow all other public traffic".

  10. Change Analysis feature for the Slots of the App Service

It looks like we can do Change Analysis only at main app level, but It would be good to have an option to enable it for the slots as well.

  11. Update Azure Functions sandbox to include Visual Fox Pro OLE DB provider

The issue simply is that the Visual Fox Pro OLE DB driver is not installed on function machines.

The driver is available from Microsoft here - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14839.

It should be as simple as to copy the vfpoledb.dll file into the D:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\System\Ole DB\ directory along with the other OLE DB drivers that are currently included. I have tried to do this myself through the Kudu console but don't have premissions of course.

  12. When cloning an app service and creating a new App insight have the new destination App Service use the new App Insights

Currently when you clone an App Service and you specify to create a new App Insights resource the destination App Service will retain the original App Insight resource due to the "Clone Settings, App Settings" toggle being turned on to Yes. Even with this "off" the App Insight is not automatically paired with new App Service.

It can be fixed by manually changing the insights but it requires a reboot which is can often occur when a Service has gone live, therefore, leading to Downtime for that new Service.

Having it attached at the point of the cloned app service…

  14. Increase app service backup limit

Actually, app service backup size limit is 10 GB and it would be nice if we have options to increase this limit to more than 10 GB per backup.

  15. Provide private dns zone support for app services

    If I add a cname record to a private dns zone called "testdns.com" - for example app1.testdns.com -> app1.azurewebsite.net

Then I would like to add a custom domain name to my app service "app1" for that custom domain. Currently this does not work.

However this does work if I add the dns record to a public dns zone.

  16. Support for deploying R Shiny App to Azure Web App Container

What I’m looking for is a guide/tutorial/dockerfile on how to accomplish deploying a shiny app to Azure Web Apps (a tutorial for Flask already exists https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/app-service/containers/quickstart-python). I think this would be a great addition to the App Service Linux lineup, since Shiny (https://shiny.rstudio.com/) is very popular. A somewhat similar solution exists here https://www.shinyproxy.io/.

  18. Upgrade CPUs in Azure App Service Premium Tier

Currently the "Premium" tier on App Service offers this three options:

    P1: 1VCore DSV2
    P2: 2VCores DSv2
    P3: 4VCores DSv2

I wouldn't call this a premium tier now that we are getting into 2020...

App service is one of the most useful services offered in Azure and it really needs an upgrade.

Amazon's Beanstalk does not have such limitations.

I would suggest that to upgrade the hardware/resources of the Premium tier to "at least":

    P1: 2 VCores
    P2: 4 VCores
    P3: 8 VCores

The processors model should be upgraded to use Dv3 or even better the F-series.

    This would be…

  20. Need app service disavailable instance deploy slot when F1 -> Paid plan -> F1

App service F1 plan can not control instance size. (I know only paid plan can control instance size. Also, B1 plan can control 3 instance maximize).

But, when I create App service with F1 plan.
and change to B1, create one instance.

And then, change plan to F1.
In this condition, can use deployment slot with F1 plan.

I think It is bug. and should fix it.
