Web Apps

Web Apps in Azure App Service provides a scalable, reliable, and easy-to-use environment for hosting web applications. Select from a range of frameworks and templates to create a web site in seconds. Use any tool or OS to develop your site with .NET, PHP, Node.js, Python and more. Choose from a variety of source control options including TFS, GitHub, BitBucket and others to set up continuous integration and develop as a team.

More details about the services are available in the App Service documentation. If you have a technical issue, please open a post on the developer forums through Stack Overflow or MSDN.

Products that we listen to in this space include: App Service, Web Apps, API Apps and Web App for Containers.

  1. MySQL in-app

The links to the blog for this feature are either redirected to the general blog landing page, no longer exists or just not with step by step approach.

Users also need to know that the "Manage" button would take them to the phpMyadmin page.

  2. Azure App Service Monitoring by SMS

    Hello team,

Aim: Send a SMS when my app service (i.e. web app) is down.
However my country code is missing in 'Action Type' for sending SMS in Azure Monitor.

Can the needful be done to add country code +230 (Mauritius)?

    Thanks.

  3. VNet NAT Gateway on App Service delegated subnet

    1. Delegate 'subnet1' to app services (webfarms).

    2. Create a VNet NAT service and assign it to 'subnet1'.

    3. Connect an app service to 'subnet1' using Regional VNet integration.

    4. Set web app setting WEBSITEVNETROUTE_ALL to 1.

This should in theory route all outbound traffic from the web app into 'subnet1' and then out through the VNet NAT service.

This would be a huge benefit for those who are stuck whitelisting an web app's outbound IP addresses which are tied to the App Service Plan. You can not easily move web apps between plans or just re-create your web app infrastructure because…

  4. Snapshot in an ASE should display a more detailed error

When trying to restore from snapshot, or clone, an app in an ASE, the error message is very unclear, for example:

    >C:\Resources\directory\c26930a7e22e4342bdeb9036ea633198.MultiRole.BackupRestore\98b51e84-7c48-402d-8c63-95f796fde96c\package\fs: The user name or password is incorrect.

It would be great if we provided a more thorough explanation of why this failed.

Perhaps greying-out the snapshot button in the portal would be appropriate as well?

  5. auto-scale out when RG is locked

App service plan auto-scale out and scale down doesnt work if the RG that app service plan is in has a lock set.
We have set a policy to have RG lock to avoid accidental deletion or any other things at RG level, but now for app service plan auto-scale out to work, we are unable to set RG level lock

Is there way for App service plan auto-scale out feature to work ignoring the RG level lock

  6. Plz add a feature to be able to turn off FTP user credentials option

Adding on behalf of a customer. There are security concerns about" why is the User Credentials are set at a global level across all subscriptions? This would be classed as a security issue for some companies."
Would it be possible to add a feature that would allow customer to simply turn off that feature within the App Service blade.

  8. Consumption Plan for Web Apps

Consider adding a Consumption Plan to App Services - similar to what we have for Azure Functions.

  9. KQL data in Log Analytics workspaces unable to split by instance since no instance column available.

In the app service tab, when aggregating the average response time, I am to apply an additional splitting to show aggregate groupings by instance.
Since I am running a scale out deployment, I can see which instance is utilizing the most calls and how balance it is.
    Similar to the image included.

However, when I try to run KQL in Log Analytics workspaces, while I am able to aggregate by the same metrics as the below, I am unable to group by the instance.
In addition, I honestly don’t see a way to group by the instance, only when I…

  10. Need a clear service policy for Windows host OS updates

    Hello,

This request follows an issue we had last year...

We are a Saas provider and we would like to leverage some Paas services for our banckend stack.
Last year we containerized some of our WCF-based applications and hosted it on Web App For Containers.
We also had migrated one of our client's tenants DB to a Managed Instance, aiming to test the whole in production...
We knew the Web App For Containers service was still PREVIEW and accepted the involved risk.

On Oct. 19, there was a major update on the platform, affecting the host OS version (upgraded to…

  11. Powershell or CLI to pull current stack information of app services

    Team ,

We are looking for an option to get the app service current stack information which is set under general settings.

Below command are giving most of the config information but they are not giving the current stack details

    Get-AzResource -ResourceGroupName "" -ResourceType Microsoft.Web/sites/config

    Get-AzWebApp
    az webapp config show

  12. Key Vault Reference VNET support

Add the ability to use key vault network access restrictions in conjunction with app services.

Currently, we have our app services and key vaults (using the service connection method) attached to a VNET. We would like the ability to enable access restrictions on the key vault, but we can't because our key vault references in our app services stop working. Adding this feature would allow us to turn on key vault network access restrictions and better secure our key vaults.

  14. Store Certificates under the corresponding Blades

When a Certificate is purchased or added, it is stored inside the Key Vault under the "Secrets"
The same blade, when importing a secret, says that said function is disabled.
Would it be possible to store the certificates in their corresponding blade?

  15. EasyAuth and SameSite cookies

The "SameSite" cookie attribute isn't being set when using Azure App Service with EasyAuth. Being able to configure this value within the Azure portal - and for other cookies as well - would be beneficial.

  16. Return 503 when App Service is stopped

I try to understand whey when App Service is stopped the HTTP status 403 is returned and not 503. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to return 503? Many clients to APIs properly handle 503 as transient error, and it would be helpful to let them wait if we return 503 in this use case if we had to stop App Service for whatever reason.

  17. Web App Access Restriction add access from another app service

would be be nice if there was an option to select app services from the Type list when adding a new rule that would allow or deny service A to call service B.

This would allow the ability to lock down some API's that shouldn't be accessed from the outside world unless allowed to do so explicitly by IP but giving access to it from other app services, it also gives control to allow access to certain app services in your subscription and not others.

  18. Improve App Service Plan auto-scaling rules

As we know, auto-scale can quite easily enter an oscillation known as "flapping". This is due to the linear nature of basic autoscale rules. The use of a cooldown period helps reduce the impact of this behaviour, but I would think that we could implement better control algorithms.

I'm not quite sure what the best approach would be, but a few thoughts come to mind:
In mechanical control applications, we see PID loops. Perhaps something similar could be implemented on the aggregate load data?
Scaling thresholds based on the current instance count might work?

  19. Restrict Key Vault certificate import to a specific App Service Plan

App Service certificate import supports importing certificates from Key Vault. This operation requires an access policy on the Key Vault for Microsoft Azure Website (app id abfa0a7c-a6b6-4736-8310-5855508787cd). This access policy is directory wide which means any App Service can import certificates from this Key Vault, even from other subscriptions within the same directory.

It would be more secure if we could limit this access policy to a particular App Service Plan. I should not be able to import production web app certificates from my personal MPN subscription.
