Web Apps

Web Apps in Azure App Service provides a scalable, reliable, and easy-to-use environment for hosting web applications. Select from a range of frameworks and templates to create a web site in seconds. Use any tool or OS to develop your site with .NET, PHP, Node.js, Python and more. Choose from a variety of source control options including TFS, GitHub, BitBucket and others to set up continuous integration and develop as a team.

More details about the services are available in the App Service documentation. If you have a technical issue, please open a post on the developer forums through Stack Overflow or MSDN.

Products that we listen to in this space include: App Service, Web Apps, API Apps and Web App for Containers.

  1. Make App Settings KeyVault Reference default to latest Secret Version

KeyVault references in App Settings is a welcome improvement in KeyVault integration.
One lingering aspect to improve, I think, is to allow us to expect the latest secret version - such that we can specify the secret name and can forget about versioning if we wish. Clearly versioning also supports a stricter process.

  3. Offer higher memory / RAM app service plans

I can see this has been raised before but we would really like to see plan options with higher memory. We could host about twice as many applications on the same plan if memory was increased to something like 32gb. Our apps aren't CPU intensive but need more memory, nor any more up.

    Thanks!

  4. Allow IP Restrictions to be a Slot Setting

In the same way as we have with App Settings it should be possible to make the IP Restrictions a slot setting (sticky) so that they don't migrate when you swap slots. This could be per IP even....

  5. Support Availability Zones for App Service Environment

With Azure SQL and Storage having zone redundant capabilities and Application Gateway in preview, App Service Environment is soon to be the only thing keeping us from fully PaaS, zone redundant web applications.

  6. Stick to the original timeline for App Services in UAE

We have clients in the middle east who are currently hosted in Europe. This causes high latency which would be solved by hosting in UAE.

  8. Application Security Groups (ASG) support for App Service Environments (ASE)

As stated in the comments section of this page https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/applicationsecuritygroups/
"It's on the roadmap, all services integrated with VNet like ASE and SQL MI will be part of ASGs groups, as of today the scope doesn't cover subnets for those services, we are exploring options in the near future."

  9. Make Small App Service Plans (S1/B1) more reliable

We've faced a issue of random high CPU in App Service Plan (S1), Azure support says that it is due to internal monitoring. But my suggestion is why to keep app service plan on such low resources that internal monitoring services suck the CPU / Memory resources.

In Short - Microsoft should make the azure internal services to use minimum resources / increase resources for small app service plans such as S1.

  10. Custom domain and path for web app easy authentication (AD), when going through application gateway

As of now if you have a domain pointing to application gateway which points to different services where one of those uses the easy auth, that service uses its own default azure domain instead of the domain pointing at application gateway with the path assigned to it (e.g /webportal)

which makes easy auth not useful when there is an application gateway in front of it

  11. Enable 'Resource Health' Feature for Isolated App Service Plans

Enable 'Resource Health" feature for Isolated App Service Plans.

Currently, it shows error message "incorrect health status - not supported"

    "
Resource health status is not available for Free, Shared or Isolated App Service plan. To enable health status, consider upgrading to a Basic, Standard, or Premium App Service plan.
    Report incorrect health status "

Instead, users of the most expensive plan, Isolated, in an ASE, are encouraged to change their plan?

Please add the feature or adjust the message. Thank you.

  12. Add better logging for Isolated App Service Environment when Deployments Fail

It can be extremely frustrating when an isolated ASE fails to deploy if the only error log says "The resource provision operation did not complete within the allowed timeout period. "

There are a number of forum threads, blogs, etc. that discuss what to possibly check when this error is thrown.

I think it could just do better. If there are requirements to communicate with some management IP during creation and it can't then that should be in the error log.

  13. AAD authentication for FTP

I want to have the FTP to use Azure AD authentication rather than using the other 2 methods available now (App, User Credentials).

  14. App Service Environment's IP is being blacklist from Spam Rats

The IP address of App Service should not be blacklisted to any platform like Spam Rats. This gives the client some confusion on what was going on with the environment.

  15. ASE creation validation UI assumptions to be reviewed

In current implementation ASE basic tab validation assumes that VNET and ASE should be deployed in different RG's. When RBAC in organisation is arranged on RG level and DevOps team is expected to deploy everything in one RG, ASE UI gives false-positive privilege validation errors (as it assumes privileges on subscription level), while you are actually able deploy using download/deploy the template. Quite confusing to see Create button disabled in this case. Hopefully this scenario could be taken into account in the future implementations. (support case 119031524002148 suggested to post it here).

  16. Select ASE Front End Scale Pricing Tier from Azure portal, using CSP Subscription

I trying to change the ASE Front End size from Azure portal using CSP Subscription, but Pricing Tier is blank and can not be selected.

I know that it is possible to respond using REST API, Azure PowerShell, etc.

Can I setting on Azure portal in the future ?

    Best regards.

  17. Log event that service plan can not handle all web apps instead killing biggest app in a loop without proper information

After spending 8+ hours debugging why Linux Web app is restarting (case: 119061321000317) I would like you to fix logging for web app plan - if Service plan cannot accomodate web apps contained in a plan - please log that health check killed biggest app in a plan and not logging "unhelthy" state.

  18. Enable users to isolate an App Service Plan instance in order to perform offline debug

It’s difficult to balance root causing live fails with keeping a production application running. This feature request attempts to address this by asking for a way to isolate an ASP instance in a running application.

By isolating a misbehaving instance you can prevent it from affecting the behavior of the application overall. It can be studied for root cause without app devs or support being pressured to do this live on a production app. When debug is complete it could be terminated.

  19. Allow users to run 'sync' operation themselves for troubleshooting

We had an issue where we attempted to clone an app service, and the operation only partially completed. We were left with an app service plan that said we couldn't delete it because it contained an app service, but we were unable to see or interact with the app service in the UI (or via api's).

We had to contact support, and they said, and I quote... "We performed a sync on your subscription and wanted to see if you are able to delete the site now."

If this 'sync operation' is able to resolve these issues, then make it…

  20. Enable AAD Authentication for Multi-container Apps

A common (if not best) practice is to compose applications of multiple containers for the sake of separation of concerns. However, Azure doesn't support authentication with Azure Active Directory for multi-container apps. Until this is in place, we can't deploy our applications to Azure in a clean way.
