Web Apps

Web Apps in Azure App Service provides a scalable, reliable, and easy-to-use environment for hosting web applications. Select from a range of frameworks and templates to create a web site in seconds. Use any tool or OS to develop your site with .NET, PHP, Node.js, Python and more. Choose from a variety of source control options including TFS, GitHub, BitBucket and others to set up continuous integration and develop as a team.

More details about the services are available in the App Service documentation. If you have a technical issue, please open a post on the developer forums through Stack Overflow or MSDN.

Products that we listen to in this space include: App Service, Web Apps, API Apps and Web App for Containers.

  1. Add Application Initialization Support for Scale Up/Down

The application initialization/warmup feature works great when scaling out/in, but when scaling up/down requests are immediately routed to the new instances before the application is warmed up. It would be great if the new instances could be warmed up before rerouting requests to them.

    • [Linux] - Set Docker Image Tag as a slot setting in Application Settings of a Web App for Containers

When swapping between staging and production slots of a Web App for Containers, it would be really handy to have the option of keeping the tag of each image in its respective slot (e.g. image:latest for production, image:dev for staging) and not get them to swap after each slot swap.
Imagine you setup Continuous Deployment through Dockerhub. You push code changes on GitHub, and image build is triggered and then an image pull request from Azure to Dockerhub. If a swap has preceded the above flow, then newly build images would end up in the opposite from desired deployment slots. …

      • Support original and country code top level domains

Please extend support for purchasing domains beyond (com, net, co.uk, org, nl, in, biz, org.uk, and co.in) to all original and country code top level domains (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Internet_top-level_domains) or at least a wider list of possibilities.

Domain ownership costs then can be managed on the same subscription bill rather than needing to purchase current unsupported domains (such as .com.au) via a seperate registrar

          Hi there,

          Thanks for the feedback!

We are looking into various TLDs to add to App Service domains based on customer feedback and usage. Do keep in mind some country based TLDs requires specific constraints that can limit us from onboarding it to our product.

          Thanks,
          Sunitha

          • replicate app service for redundancy

would be good to have app services be replicated in another region for high availability and redundancy

We have been experiencing sporadic times of high dependency latency. Understanding where this is coming from would help narrow down a long term solution.

              • Notification hook for manual scaling on an ASE

Scaling within an ASE is unreliable and often takes hours (although support maintains that it should only take 30-45min). We need a way of being notified on the status of the scaling operations. For example, an email notification, web hook, etc.

The hours of scaling you’re describing, is that on ASE v1 or v2? v2 should have much faster scaling operations. If you encounter an issue on v2, please open a support ticket.

For the option of receiving notification for completed deployment, we will respond later after reviewing.

                  Thanks,

I'm not confident that the Azure Portal deployment option with Github is pulling in all repositories in the organization. An easy way to verify that would be to display the repository count somewhere in the UI.

                    • [Linux] Add support to mount Azure File Share to Web App For Container

Currently, if I try to follow the guide for Linux mapping of Azure File share inside a Web App for Container, I get the following error -

"Unable to apply new capability set."

Use case for such scenarios is having a Wordpress website and running a cron job inside the container app to periodically upload the media folder to this File Share. This file share can then be mounted on the Dev VMs...

                      • Make it possible to set up CRON jobs via SSH shell on Linux web app

Creating scheduled tasks via CRON on linux boxes is very easy - but on linux web app in azure it seems impossible. This is basic and fundamentally necessary feature for LAMP stack developers and should be added and clearly documented to encourage more linux uses to host apps on Azure.

Either the template is having some issues or it's wrongly stated in the template and local MySQL DB is not available in this template.
In either case, you need to correct either the template or template description.

I would like the ability to create IPv6 restrictions for the web application. We're using a proxy in front of the web apps and it will pass traffic over both IPv4 and IPv6. We've setup the IPv4 restrictions to ensure everything is flowing through the proxy to get to the website but we're now having to disable IPv6 due to the limitation of Azure's inability to write IPv6 rules.

                                  • Allow importing 3rd party ssl certs for use as app service certificates in app services/web apps

Currently if I have an ssl certificate being used in multiple app services, when I renew that certificate I have to update the app services one by one or via powershell. It looks like using an app service certificate would solve this by allowing me to renew in one place and have it update each of the app services automatically. The problem being that I use 3rd party issued ssl certs vs ones created as app service certs in azure.

Ideal would be to either allow uploading 3rd party ssl certs to be used as app service certs or offer…

Enable the 'Change App Service Plan' blade for Linux web apps in order to allow Linux apps to be moved to a different App Service plan in the way Windows apps can be moved now.

                                      • Add comment field to IP Restrictions list

Would be helpful to be able to associate a comment or description with each IP address/range similar to the firewall UX in Azure SQL DB.

                                        • [Linux] Add some container orchestration features to App Service to provide high density

Azure App Service is the Easy Button for app deployment and hosting, whereas Service Fabric and containers add significant complexity. However, Service Fabric and containers scale much more efficiently. It would be amazing if you could add some basic container orchestration features in a way that would make App Service the Easy Button for container-based deployments, including high density. I realize this is a challenging request, but like I said, it would be amazing!

                                          Thanks!
