  1. Enable application logging in ILB ASE

Currently there is no way to access our applications trace logs in an ILB ASE environment. I understand the Log Stream button is greyed out in the portal, but even using Kudu, FTP, blob, or streaming in VS, none of these are working in ILB ASE, and support tells us this is a known issue. This is a huge downside for us because we depend on our customized application log messages for troubleshooting.

    • Programmatically associating a Hybrid Connection to an Azure App Service is not possible

I believe that there should be a capability added to Azure App Services to allow for programmatically associating existing Hybrid Connections to an App Service instance. This can be done manually via the portal as shown in the attached image but cannot be done via Powershell, Azure CLI, or Azure REST API. Any upcoming features for this? Or is this already possible but I haven't yet been able to find out how? Thank you.

      • [Linux] Web App for Containers set latest pushed tag as the container image

When a new tag is pushed to container repository the web app should be able to pick up the latest pushed tag and set it as the running image. This can be given as a switch setting (checkbox).Currently you are pointing the image at a specific tag.

        • Make Vnet sticky to slot

When switching slots currently if you have a vnet on one slot and not the other, the vnet is switched between slots. As this vnet may be pointing to a testing environment on one slot and a production environment on the other slot, it would make sense to have this be a sticky setting to the slot, with the option to make it global across the app in the case that all slots will be using the same vnet.

          • "HTTPS Only" Setting Should Be Inherited With Configuration In Deploy Slot

We've set up a custom domain and purchased and installed security certificates. Everything works great for https, and we've switched on HTTPS Only in the Custom domain panel for our production slot.

Then, we created a new build with new features we developed in the latest sprint, created a new deploy slot, checked the box for the deploy slot to inherit its configuration settings from production, and... the HTTPS Only setting is switched to off, regardless of inheriting configuration settings.

We switch HTTPS Only back on in the deploy slot, go through our upload. When we swap the deploy slot…

            • Make use of Reserved Instances

It's possible to prepay VM's, this will result in a lower cost, see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/prepay-reserved-vm-instances

It would be great to use these machines in WebApps. Or add these type of payment to the Web Apps.

              • Audit file system on WebApps and log to Blob

Audit file system to detect malicious file changing.

Recently we experience intrusion into a Wordpress site on WebApp.
There was a malicious "favicon.ico" icon file.
We are investigating a feature to detect these type of malicious manipulation.

Currently exploring all files at every job is needed to detect, but it is not efficient because we update this site NOT frequently.

If WebApps have auditing file system and log to Blob,
we can create custom alert rules with Azure Functions easily.

This is also an alternative way for implementing antimalware feature: https://feedback.azure.com/forums/169385-web-apps/suggestions/17919064-antimalware-feature-on-web-apps-app-service

                • Provide acceptable scale out time for instances in ASE Isolated instance types

Scaling is a core feature of App Services. We used ASE for the additional features however it means we are stuck with 40 mins scale out time to add an instance. Per support this is by design, however this is not documented anywhere in public domain.
Scaling is supposed to help us get customers on to Azure, if it takes 40 mins to add an instance, it will not meet the business needs, we abandoned ASE only due to this issue. Kindly document current scale out time in public documentation so that user know this before hand.
                  Ultimate goal should…

                    Thanks for the feedback!

You’re right that ASE scaling operations take longer than the common plans on multi-tenant App Service. We are looking at ways to decrease the time so it will on par with multi-tenant but this means a new infrastructure is needed with managing a pool or pre-assigned VMs to the ASEs.

This is documented here, though without a time frame mentioned as it depends on a numbers of factors: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/app-service/environment/using-an-ase#how-scale-works.

We will update when there is more information here.

                    Thanks,
                    Oded

                  • localcache

Better error messages when slot swaps fail due to issues with the application size exceeding the configured local cache size. Currently the only error is :

'Failed swapping site. Error: Cannot swap slots for site '***' because the worker process for 'staging' slot could not be started’

which gives no real insight into the actual failure.

                    • Add Application Initialization Support for Scale Up/Down

The application initialization/warmup feature works great when scaling out/in, but when scaling up/down requests are immediately routed to the new instances before the application is warmed up. It would be great if the new instances could be warmed up before rerouting requests to them.

                      • [Linux] - Set Docker Image Tag as a slot setting in Application Settings of a Web App for Containers

When swapping between staging and production slots of a Web App for Containers, it would be really handy to have the option of keeping the tag of each image in its respective slot (e.g. image:latest for production, image:dev for staging) and not get them to swap after each slot swap.
Imagine you setup Continuous Deployment through Dockerhub. You push code changes on GitHub, and image build is triggered and then an image pull request from Azure to Dockerhub. If a swap has preceded the above flow, then newly build images would end up in the opposite from desired deployment slots. …

                        • Support original and country code top level domains

Please extend support for purchasing domains beyond (com, net, co.uk, org, nl, in, biz, org.uk, and co.in) to all original and country code top level domains (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Internet_top-level_domains) or at least a wider list of possibilities.

Domain ownership costs then can be managed on the same subscription bill rather than needing to purchase current unsupported domains (such as .com.au) via a seperate registrar

                            Hi there,

                            Thanks for the feedback!

We are looking into various TLDs to add to App Service domains based on customer feedback and usage. Do keep in mind some country based TLDs requires specific constraints that can limit us from onboarding it to our product.

                            Thanks,
                            Sunitha

                                • Notification hook for manual scaling on an ASE

Scaling within an ASE is unreliable and often takes hours (although support maintains that it should only take 30-45min). We need a way of being notified on the status of the scaling operations. For example, an email notification, web hook, etc.

The hours of scaling you’re describing, is that on ASE v1 or v2? v2 should have much faster scaling operations. If you encounter an issue on v2, please open a support ticket.

For the option of receiving notification for completed deployment, we will respond later after reviewing.

                                    Thanks,

                                    • [Linux] Add support to mount Azure File Share to Web App For Container

Currently, if I try to follow the guide for Linux mapping of Azure File share inside a Web App for Container, I get the following error -

"Unable to apply new capability set."

Use case for such scenarios is having a Wordpress website and running a cron job inside the container app to periodically upload the media folder to this File Share. This file share can then be mounted on the Dev VMs...

                                      • Make it possible to set up CRON jobs via SSH shell on Linux web app

Creating scheduled tasks via CRON on linux boxes is very easy - but on linux web app in azure it seems impossible. This is basic and fundamentally necessary feature for LAMP stack developers and should be added and clearly documented to encourage more linux uses to host apps on Azure.

                                        • Support Dv2-series VMs in Standard tier

Currently the Dv2-series of VMs are only supported in the Premium (V2) tier. Please support these VMs in the Standard tier for those who need to leverage the much-improved performance but who do not need (and cannot afford) all the expensive features of Premium.

Thank you for the feature request. We are aware of the major improvement Dv2 represents and we are constantly looking to improve our offerings. We have no plans right now but we will update here if this changes in the future.

                                            Thanks,
                                            Oded
