Cache

Azure Cache is a family of cache offerings that support high throughput, low-latency data access, to enable building fast, scalable applications.
- Azure Redis Cache (Preview) is based on the popular open source Redis Cache engine. The service gives users access to a secure, dedicated Redis Cache, managed by Microsoft.
- Azure Managed Cache Service: Built on App Fabric Cache. This is a dedicated managed service.
- In-Role Cache: Built on App Fabric Cache. This is a self-hosted cache, available via the Azure SDK.

How can we improve Azure Cache?

    • Add data persistence and VNET support in Standard Tier

The current plan design is completely unrealistic for real deployment:

      1. Persistence is too important for many situations, for example using redis as a queue for job runner which is very common practice
      2. VNET protection is also basic requirement. Read from redis:
      https://redis.io/topics/security

REDIS on its own is not designed to work in public network, with or without SSL. Primary reason is being there is no rate limit for such cache, thus making brute force extremely efficient to ***** system password.

I think with these 2 issues resolved on Standard tier (and most people really dont need premier tier,…

      • Enable firewall for all Azure Redis Cache dedicated service pricing tiers

Currently the Azure Redis Cache only allows the firewall to be set on premium pricing tiers. This security service should be available on all pricing tiers with a dedicated service

          • Support generating CORS key, at least for Read-Only access

I like other Azure Storage has the CORS key generation concept.
I would like to generate Read-Only key access for my cache, so that our partner can directly read them.

            • Add more detailed analytics about gets and sets to diagnose problems and monitor cache

Currently there's no easy way when we see a spike in gets or sets to see what's happening. We have to start guessing, and neither the monitoring dashlets nor the Application Insights external dependency track are useful. It'd be great to have some form of get/set tracking to diagnose problemas.

              • Remove keys from Azure Redis Cache based on key patterns

Sometime we need to remove keys from cache based on key patterns but right now there is no such feature in console.

                • Request Count per Client on Azure Redis Cache Instance

Right now , There is no way to request count from client. in our case We have around 22 cloud service and each one is using Azure Redis Cache and we see spike on azure portal for cache but not able to identify cloud service name which one is requesting so may request to cache. if we get the name then it will help to narrow down code analysis . I mean which cloud service is creation spike.

                  • Do not load too many monitoring dashboards when loading Azure Redis Cache

Every time I clicked on my redis, it took so long to load the monitoring dashboards. And after waiting for a long time, I tried to click on one of the monitoring dashboard, say, "Connections", the webpage did not respond...
I do not if this is a good place to give feedback on, since this might be poor frontend design...... I just want to call out this pain

                    • Fix your Microsoft.Web.RedisOutputCacheProvider

It seems to work with non authenticated requests only which makes it totally unusable in any real life scenario.

                      • Reboot all redis tiers on dedicated infrastructure

Why can we only reboot premium tier instances? I get that if we're on a multi-tenant setup we can't reboot - but once we get to STANDARD tier we should be able to reboot, not just premium.

                        • Add measurable unit of Redis Cache performance like DTU (for SQL Database)

We sometimes face performance issues. Microsoft provides the following documentation to investigate timeout problem.
                          <https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/cache-how-to-troubleshoot/#stackexchangeredis-timeout-exceptions>

But we can't identify root cause easily. So personally I think measurable unit of Redis Cache Performance like DTU for SQL database is very useful for customer. I understand Redis Cache Advisor is very helpful for us. But if you can, could you please consider this kind of ability for good experience.

                            • Keep In-Role Cache

In-Role Cache has been marked for end-of-life and Redis Cache is now the only supported solution. Please keep In-Role cache as an option because it is the ONLY caching solution that actually scales with node count. Azure is about scalability, right?

                                • scale to basic

Give an option to rescale back to Basic tier. I started with Basic, switched to Standard but soon realized that I can not utilize it in near future and wanted to roll back to Basic. I was surprised when I saw that this option was not available.

Redis Cache is important part of every scalable SaaS aplication.
SaaS vendors will be able to offer their solution on-premise for big corporate customers willing to use their products behind the firewall.

                                    • Support RedisCache in Azure Stack

Please add support of RedisCache in Azure Stack

Azure RedisCache is a fundamental backbone service for applications using autoscaling (e.g: Cloud Service Web and Worker Role).

                                      • Allow different Storage Accounts for Diagnostics for separate Redis Resources in the same region

Allow different Storage Accounts for Diagnostics for separate Redis Resources in the same region

Currently, "Caches in the same region and subscription share the same diagnostics storage account, and when the configuration is changed it applies to all caches in the subscription that are in that region."

This is currently documented here: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/cache-how-to-monitor/

This is a bad idea - I have different Applications and Resource Groups - with different Redis Resources.

I also like to keep my Diagnostics data separate, within an Application, but also across Applications.

Please allow me to assign different Storage Accounts for Diagnostics for Redis Resources…

                                        • Smaller Premium Redis Instances

I have a requirement, where need high network performance and enhanced security but only 50MB and 250MB or 1GB size, 6GB cache and paying £205/mo doesn't fit well our current total spend is £450/mo
